Solvent Free Water-Based Adhesives: Maximum Performance, Minimal Hassle

For over five decades, Super Bond Adhesives Pvt. Ltd. has been a leading water based adhesive manufacturer, serving partners across the Indian subcontinent, East Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. We supply proven water based adhesive solutions engineered for industries demanding sustainability, superior adhesion, and environmental responsibility.

About Water Based Adhesive

Water based adhesives use water as the primary carrier, eliminating the need for additional solvents. These adhesives are formulated by dispersing polymers such as polyvinyl acetate (PVA), ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), and acrylics in water, combined with surfactants and performance additives. Easy to apply in liquid form, they ensure smooth application and strong adhesion to substrates like paper, wood, cardboard, and selected plastics, making them an efficient and environmentally responsible bonding solution.Unlike traditional solvent-based adhesives that depend on chemical solvents for bonding, Superbond’s water based adhesive formulations create strong, durable bonds through a simple evaporation process where water evaporates, leaving behind a solid adhesive film that securely joins surfaces.

Bonding Strength

Water-based adhesives are made by mixing a polymer with water and surfactants. The mix is heated and blended to get a smooth dispersion. Additives are added to improve bond strength and other properties. The adhesive is tested for consistency. Adjustments are made if needed. Finally, it is packaged for long-term use. This process ensures stable and reliable bonding across various uses.

Advanced Polymer System

  1. Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA)
Serves as a foundational polymer for porous substrates, penetrating paper, cardboard, and wood fibers to provide strong initial tack and develop a durable final bond.
  2. Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA)
Enhance flexibility and heat resistance, ensuring durable bonds in flexible packaging, textiles, and foam applications even under temperature fluctuations.
  3. Acrylic Polymers
Provide water resistance, weatherability, and long-term durability while ensuring strong adhesion to non-porous substrates.

Water(Primary Carrier)
Eliminates hazardous solvents and ensures safer workplaces while providing uniform coating, controlled viscosity, and consistent drying without VOC emissions.

Performance Enhancing Additives

  1. Surfactants-
Ensure uniform polymer distribution, stable emulsions, proper substrate wetting, and consistent film formation across diverse surfaces.
  2. Plasticisers
Plasticisers enhance flexibility, prevent brittleness, and allow bonded assemblies to withstand thermal, vibrational, and mechanical stresses while maintaining adhesive strength across temperatures.
  3. Tackifiers
Boost initial grab strength for faster bonding, improve adhesion to challenging substrates, and maintain removability during open time.
  4. Preservatives and ph stabilisers
Preservatives prevent microbial growth in water-based adhesives, ensuring consistent performance and formulation integrity throughout an 18–24 month shelf life.

How water-based adhesives work

Surface Preparation

  1. Ensure both substrates are completely clean and dry before applying the adhesive.
  2. Remove dust, oil, and grease to help the adhesive grip the surface effectively.
  3. Proper preparation allows smooth spreading and stronger, longer-lasting bonds.

Adhesive Application

  1. Effortlessly apply the adhesive with a brush, roller, or spray to suit your workflow.
  2. Formulated with PVA, EVA, and acrylic particles for reliable, high-performance bonding.
  3. Water carries the adhesive deep into pores, ensuring a smooth, uniform coat for strong adhesion.

Surface Wetting

  1. The adhesive wets the surface, spreading across the substrate and penetrating tiny surface irregularities.
  2. Effective wetting increases contact area, enhancing bonding through mechanical interlocking and molecular forces.
  3. Microscopic pores are filled, creating multiple points of contact for stronger, long-lasting bonds.

Water Evaporation

  1. As the adhesive sits, water evaporates or is absorbed by porous substrates.
  2. Polymer particles move closer together, preparing for film formation.
  3. Effective Drying occurs at room temperature, though airflow or mild heating can speed up the process, saving energy.

Film Formation

  1. Polymer particles coalesce into a continuous film as water evaporates.
  2. The film locks into microscopic surface features, providing robust mechanical bonding.
  3. Crosslinking agents can chemically bind polymer chains, improving strength, heat, and water resistance providing enhanced durability.

Final Bond Strength

  1. The adhesive film cures fully, creating a long-lasting, flexible bond.
  2. The bond resists movement, heat, and moisture, combining mechanical interlock with chemical adhesion.
  3. Proper surface preparation and application techniques are key to achieving maximum bond strength.
