Superbond pressure sensitive adhesives offering instant tack and long-lasting bond strength.

Pressure Sensitive Adhesives Engineered for Superior Bond Strength

Since 1974, Superbond is one of the leading pressure sensitive adhesive manufacturers for critical bonding needs, manufacturers in over 30 countries. Our performance-engineered pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs) ensure dependable results across diverse applications from labeling and tape production to hygiene products and industrial laminations where reliability and performance are essential.

What are Pressure Sensitive Adhesives?

Pressure Sensitive Adhesives are bonding agents that form a bond when light pressure is applied when the adhesive comes in contact with the surface. Once pressure is applied, they cool quickly to form an instant, durable bond with the substrate, eliminating the need for any drying or curing time, which is why they’re known as pressure sensitive. PSA glue remains permanently tacky at room temperature and is commonly used in tapes, labels, stickers, and glue pads for instant bonding applications.

Superbond PSA adhesive excels in adhering to challenging surfaces, including plastics, metals, glass, and speciality materials. This pressure sensitive adhesive glue is developed for optimal peel and shear resistance, providing lasting adhesion while enabling easy handling and application across diverse industrial and commercial use cases.

Working of Pressure Sensitive Adhesives

Superbond pressure sensitive adhesives offering instant tack and long-lasting bond strength.

A strong, flexible, and durable bond is formed immediately without the need for heat, solvents, or curing. Adhesion is achieved solely through applied pressure and can be removed or peeled as needed without residue.

This process ensures quick bonding with durable adhesion ideal for various industrial applications.

Applying Pressure Sensitive Adhesive

1.Prepare the Surface:

Ensure the substrate is meticulously clean, dry, and completely free of dust, oil, grease, or any contaminants, as even tiny residues can weaken the adhesive bond.

2.Peel Off the Liner

Carefully remove the protective liner to expose the adhesive’s tacky surface. Avoid touching the exposed adhesive directly to preserve its full sticking power.

3.Position the Material:

Precisely align the PSA-coated surface or tape on the target area. Remember that bonding starts instantly upon initial contact, so accurate placement is important.

4.Apply Firm Pressure:

Use uniform pressure by hand, roller, or applicator to ensure the adhesive fully wets the substrate. For thin films and labels, apply gentle and even pressure; for thicker tapes and sheets, use a roller or squeegee to maximise contact.

5.Instant Bond:

The PSA forms an immediate bond at room temperature without any need for heat or solvents. Allow a few minutes for the adhesive to flow and develop its full bond strength.

6.Check Bond Performance:

Before proceeding to a large-scale application, test a small area for peel strength and tack to confirm compatibility and adhesion quality on your substrate.

FAQs- Pressure Sensitive Adhesives

A pressure sensitive adhesive material consists of elastomeric or thermoplastic base polymers such as acrylics, synthetic or natural rubber, silicone, or polyisobutylene. These polymers are combined with tackifiers to provide stickiness, along with additives like plasticisers, fillers, and antioxidants to enhance performance.

Pressure activated glue adheres instantly with light pressure and remain tacky, allowing bonding without heat or solvents. Contact adhesives require application to both surfaces and activation by drying or heat before joining. PSAs offer convenience and re-positionability unlike contact adhesives, which generally provide stronger initial bonds but require precise application timing.

Superbond pressure sensitive adhesives are formulated for medical or skin-contact applications are designed to be hypoallergenic and safe for skin contact. However, general industrial PSA adhesive should be handled according to safety guidelines to avoid skin irritation.

Handle PSA adhesive in well-ventilated areas, avoid prolonged skin contact, wear protective gloves and eyewear. Follow specific safety and disposal instructions on product data sheets. Avoid inhalation of fumes from solvent-based products.

Superbond offers PSA glue formulations compliant with food packaging regulations for safe direct or indirect food contact applications. Products intended for food packaging are manufactured under strict quality controls meeting regulatory requirements.

Yes, many Superbond PSA adhesive formulations are suitable for permanent bonding needs, providing strong durable adhesion that withstands environmental stresses. Some PSA glue are also designed for removable or repositionable bonds depending on application requirements.

Pressure sensitive adhesives generally have a shelf life of 12 to 18 months when stored unopened under recommended conditions, cool, dry environments between 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F) with controlled humidity. Proper storage away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture is essential to maintain adhesive performance and prevent degradation such as loss of tack or brittleness.

PSAs should be stored in their original airtight containers, vertically positioned to avoid damage to rolls or packaging. Maintaining stable temperatures within the recommended range and avoiding exposure to UV light and moisture extends shelf life and usability.
